Hello,

Do you think there is room in the Catholic culture surrounding the Tridentine Liturgy for the Divine Mercy devotion? How and where would it fit in? And what kind of an impact would it have?

I’ve attended a few; these were held in lieu of Rosaries before and after Mass.

We had the Divine Mercy Sunday with the Tridentine Mass at my local indult. Confessions and Chaplet before Mass. A homily on Divine Mercy and Benediction followed by the veneration of St. Faustina’s relic.

I must say though, it seems that the Tridentine Culture is not as heavily out there with the Divine Mercy as the rest of Catholic Culture.

I don’t understand the question. The Divine Mercy devotion is a restatement of one of the most traditional Catholic devotions, that of invoking the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so why would it be out of place in a church blessed with permission to celebrate the Tridentine Mass? The chaplet is not recited in the context of Mass in any case (either is the rosary) but at another time, although in the presence of the exposed Blessed Sacrament is strongly advised, so where would the conflict be?

Our parish (FSSP Indult) said the divine mercy chaplet on Divine Mercy Sunday after Mass. We also had extended confessions before, during, and after Mass. The apostolic decree granting the indulgence was also published in the parish bulletin.

At the Tridentine liturgy I attend the priest leads the Chaplet of Divine Mercy after high Mass.

Hello,

The replies sound promising and fill me with hope. Let me ask this, the communities where the devotion is offered and where the feast day was celebrated - are they full fledged Tridentine communities, or just a subset within a larger parish community?

Except for the FSSP and ICR communities, there are relatively few “full-fledged” Tridentine communities. So I imagine we’ll be looking at being mostly a “subset” for a while, even if our long-awaited M.P. comes around tomorrow. 😦
