Who here attends Tridentine Masses frequently (like every Sunday) but uses the post-Vatican II version of the Liturgy of the Hours? I do, and I also meditate on the daily Gospel from the current Church calendar rather than the old one. Would these apply to anyone else on here?

Let me ask a question…

What is the difference between the liturgical calendars?

I go to a conservative Catholic Church where we don’t do a tridentine mass, but all of our songs and responses are in latin. Last Sunday, I heard the same gospel reading there that I had heard the week before at another Catholic Church. It was about “Prostetutes and Tax Collectors” getting into heaven before “you”. Does this have anything to do with the calendars?

In a nutshell, yes.

Calendars are also different in regard to various saint’s days.

Now back to the topic of the thread – who here attends Tridentine Masses but prays the post-Vatican II Liturgy of the Hours and perhaps even meditates on the day’s Gospel readings from the current Church calendar?

Oh wow, I realized that no one answered this question of mine here … so c’mon, y’all, does this apply to anyone here?

It doesn’t apply to me, but I have to wonder (presuming you’re reciting the Hours in English?) if you love the Latin liturgy so much as as to attend the TM, then how can you possibly stand the wretched American Divine Office?

In a way, I’m doing the opposite of you: I daily attend vernacular Novus Ordo Mass, but pray the Office in Latin. The ICEL version is an abomination.

That’s not the topic of this thread, so I’m not going to comment. Back to the topic at hand …

Speaking of relevance to the subject - shouldn’t this thread have been submitted in the “Liturgy and the Sacraments” Forum? 😃

It doesn’t have to do solely with the Mass; therefore, it’s more appropriate here.

Now can we PLEASE get back to the topic at hand?

Yes I do this currently. I attend a traditional rite mass on Sunday, but pray the revised liturgy of the hours (not frequently but I am trying to do more). However, I am considering going to a pre-vatican II LOTH. Not because I have a problem with the new one, but I like the idea of a one week Psalter. On the other hand, I might not have enough time to do that. For now I am sticking with the revised Divine Office.

I’m not sure if this answers your question, but I believe the indult applies only to the mass not the Divine Office.
