Tridentine Mass Questions

I would like to attend the Latin Mass our diocese offers on Sundays. I have a Maryknoll Consecutive Sunday Missal from 1963 that was given to me as a gift at Confirmation. Will the Latin Mass be as it is in this Missal; from that time period? Also is the Mass you sometimes see on EWTN a TLM or is it something else?
 
I think it should bebasically the same Mass as in your missal. I recommend that study the unchanging parts or Ordinary of the Mass, as this will make it easier to follow the rest. You’ll get the hang of it.

The mass on EWTN is generally the New Mass with some Latin, although it has begun televizing the TLM every few months.

A missal dated 1963 is bound to work. But be on your guard. While the abbreviation “TLM” is used here, I don’t know what each individual poster intends - either “Traditional” Latin Mass or “Tridentine” Latin Mass. One would assume it’s the same. However, through the years parishes have had Latin Masses that are not Tridentine - but rather the new Mass in Latin.

Ask wherever you are planning to attend - if the Mass is Tridentine.
 
I, too, was confirmed in 1963 and my St. Joseph’s Missal from the time works for the TLM.

The Mass on EWTN can be the TLM but it is announced as such and they have been very infrequent. The other Masses using Latin are OF and your missal would be good for the ordinary parts of the Mass - Kyrie, Gloria, Preface, Sanctus, Canon (Eucharistic Prayer 1 - the Roman Canon), Pater Noster, Agnus Dei etc.
 
Thanks for the info! Now, one last question. How do you pronounce “Tridentine”. I don’t want to look like an idiot when I ask the parish secretary about it. Thanks!

There are a variety of opinions on this.

Just ask about the “Traditional Latin Mass” of the “Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite”.

It will be close. But there will be no confiteor before communion. Usually the priest/deacon chants this. And a few bell ringings are removed. Something to do with the fact that the late 1962 missal took these out but no one ever really adopted these changes.
