Triduum: One liturgy, two consecrations

Just a question I thought of last night, while explaining to my son that we leave the Holy Thursday Mass in silence b/c the liturgy isn’t over yet.

Am I correct in my understanding that the Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil services together comprise the one liturgy of the Triduum?

If that is correct, how does that liturgy include two consecrations: once on Holy Thursday and once at the Easter Vigil?

Just curious how the Church understands and explains this and hope someone here knows the answer.

Perhaps they comprise “one liturgy” in a fuzzy sense of the word “liturgy,” but they definitely comprise two separate Masses. In reality, the Triduum proper begins with the evening Mass on Thursday and runs all the way to vespers of Easter Sunday, so all the Masses on Easter morning also fall during the Triduum.

It’s not fuzzy liturgy it’s our most important and beautiful liturgy. But you are correct in that Easter Sunday masses are still part of the Triduum celebration which ends with Vespers.
 
I was once told that the liturgy is as one - and it was pointed out that there was no dismissal until the end of the Easter Vigil - but then that would go against the idea it finishes at the Easter day Vespers.

I’m not worried about this! - But it is interesting. Who will cast light on this 🙂
