“But by refusing to accept the inevitability of student sexual activity and stubbornly adhering to antiquated Church doctrine, the university is failing its students in its responsibility to promote sexual health.”

Wow. GU is more Catholic than I would have expected.

Do GU parents realize that their kids can’t buy condoms at a Catholic school? Shocking!

My goodness, the article acts as if it’s the University’s responsibility to supply students with contraception.

If they want it so bad and are mature enough to have sex, then they’re mature enough to go to the store on their own and buy it with their own $$.

Wow, what a concept. Personal responsibility.

Condoms promotes only promiscuity.
I always say, wearing a condom is like wearing a cheap suit of armour…you’re willing to take more chances that won’t always workout as planned. If I had a suit of armour, I’d fight a bear, run down the highway, jump off my house etc. 😛

Praise God for Georgetown University’s excellent stance on this issue!

I agree Holly3278! I’m glad Georgetown is sticking to their guns, and even more proud that Notre Dame is also sticking to their guns (with F’s accross the board for availability of birth control and sexually active services). Why would Trojan even spend the time to analyze two Catholic schools. Oh yeah, I know why…This ploy is Trojan’s way to get colleges to see how “necessary” it is to buy then pass out their merchandise on college campuses! …an absurd act at ANY school! They don’t care about college students, they care about their income statement’s revenue side! These are adults they’re talking about. They all know what condoms are. For cryin’ out loud, if they want one I think they could easily go off campus and buy a pack. How crazy!

I’ll never forget being a young ND student and one of my friends was a freshman at a state university in Ohio. This Ohio school sold condoms next to the Snickers bars in vending machines. I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry about their university…however, being 19, I laughed…and laughed a lot. I told my Notre Dame friends, and nobody could believe it!

I wish more American universities focused strictly on their curriculum and less on the active sex lives of their students.

For anyone interested, I found the website of the study by Trojan:
trojancondoms.com/press_articles/a20060919eng.asp

Once again, congratulations to Notre Dame and BYU for getting straight F’s on Trojan’s propoganda. However, I wonder why they received F’s for the last couple portions of the study “Sexual Abuse Services” and “Outreach Programs”? I’m sure that if Trojan would have looked into the CAMPUS MINISTRY programs of Notre Dame, BYU, or even Georgetown for that matter, they would have found excellent sources that help students deal with sexual assault and I would imagine very supportive outreach programs for students struggling with STI or an assault. But, of course Trojan did not look into Campus Ministry…and why…because this study is another ploy to put guilt trips on universities to buy and distribute Trojan products to their students.

Oh well. I’m glad the religiously affiliated schools aren’t buying into this one!

I don’t know who or when, but at some point someone decided that universities are responsible for parenting their students.

For instance, there was a case at the university that I attended where a student died of alcohol poisoning at an off-campus frat party, and the family filed a wrongful death suit against the university! What are they supposed to do? Send the chancellor to the party to regulate the alcohol? Why not sue the fraternity? The person who owned the building? Or whoever bought the booze for the party?

If college students want condoms, let them save some of their beer money and buy them on their own. I don’t want any of my tuition payments, or any that I pay on my kids’ behalf (when I have them) to pay for someone else’s irresponsible behavior.
