Trouble getting over past sins

I once told a priest how lousy I felt over my very sinful past life, too, and how I was struggling to come to terms with that. He very simply told me to focus on the person that God was changing me into, not the person who was. This has helped me tremendously.

God Bless.

Wow. A lot of good posts on this. Jenwha I have been in your shoes, but you would have to add more sins… I was heavily involved in the occult/new age/witchcraft thing. I was away from the church for 25 years, and sometimes I do mourn for the time lost. However, as someone else said, that time can be redeemed. I learned many, many things during my time “in the world” that have made me even more appreciative of what God has done for me. It has also helped me to have “stay in church talks” with people (especially teenagers) who think that Church Lady doesn’t know nuttin’ about nuttin’.

That being said, I’d like to add that if you are genuinely grieving/repenting your sins that’s a good thing, a great thing, a beautiful thing. There’s also a spiritual perspective in this I don’t see too many comments on, and that would be the warfare side of it. I’ve been going through deliverance for several months now because of the effects of my sins. I have found that a lot of the physical/emotional/spiritual residue is finally letting up because I am now praying for the conversion of all those that were involved in these sins with me, all our friends and family that we affected with our sins, and especially for our poor children. What a difference! Even the fibromyalgia that I have dealt with for 15 yrs (including $thousands$ for specialists that didn’t help) is hardly bothering me at all. I no longer have to drink holy water to get more than 2 hours of sleep a night, and the list goes on…

My point is, use your sorrow and offer it up for the salvation of others. God will bless that and Satan will run the other way! 🙂 God will use it and Satan will not be able to groom you for despair.

BTW: Deo Gratias, that was uncalled for.

Dona nobis pacem!

Holy Mother, please intercede for us.
Aid those needing help, strengthen the fearful,
hold the sorrowful, help those sick, in pain or suffering,
comfort those needing peace, hug the lonely,
guide us from evil, guard the unborn,
soften the bitter, assist those who need to heal,
protect those in danger, pray for those who have died;
may all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.
Amen.

Thank you very much.

Wow, now I’m getting chills. I was praying last night before I went to sleep and that very thought came into my head. I offered all of the pain that I went through for others to come to God too, the ones that were lost like I was is what I told God.

I also got the chills as it were as I was reading parts of the Catechism in the Adoration Chapel this afternoon, and it described a conversion of the heart as a turning away from one’s old ways, shame, and a great sorrow for past sins. It described exactly what I have been going through. I am such a new Catholic (3 months) that I felt like God was telling me it was a temporary yet necessary part of turning back to him, and I felt he guided me to read that very passage as He knows what I am going through.

In any case, I have to remember that probably some grief and initial torment when changing your life is much, much, better than not even feeling a twinge of conscience when I was so in the mire of Satan’s hold.

God is truly great in my life today, all praise to Him and Jesus Christ.
