Trouble with Porn and Masturbation

Show me studies that say there are wrong things with masturbation and I will think on it. Porn is hard only because it has changed so much in the past two decades or so. I can go look up say Rebecca Love and see she is doing quite well for herself because of having to do porn. Heck people I follow on Snapchat doing porn are doing very well. Exercising, living a life of travel, and are normal people. It is this demonization that, to me, is more the problem.

Oh and I am not bashing the OP. I was just asking where the organization got their information. If the OP wants to “quit” masturbation okay.

As a Catholic, it should be enough for you that the Church teaches that it’s a Mortal Sin.

Everytime, I give into the sin of maturbation I feel empty, shallow, and weak. It’s an addiction. And so is Porn. I feel the loss of Grace when I commit these sins, but I also know that I’ve given into my addiction.

It is also natural to love our friends and hate our enemies. It is natural to want revenge when wronged. But our Lord calls us to a higher standard. HIS standard. And he says “Love your enemy” even though it is contrary to our nature. He says “Vengeance is mine” even though our nature makes us want to harm those who harm us.

His Church teaches it is a mortal sin. Therefore, regardless if it is something everyone has done in their life and something animals do, it is still a Mortal Sin. I do not know about you but I do not think telling God “I masturbated and looked at porn because it is natural and doctors said it was okay” is gonna cut it on judgement day. It is not a risk I am willing to take. I think he would want me to listen to Church teaching on the matter. We do not get to pick and choose what Church teachings we like and which we reject. That is someone who my be Catholic by Baptism but is not truly practicing the faith that they may claim to profess and believe.

The Church in no way would agree with your analysis of de Montfort’s writing, and I hope you will concede that you’re not yet educated enough to simply write off the Church’s judgment as if it was arrived at by a bunch of ignoramuses sitting around playing cards.

de Montfort is not in any way, shape, or form heretical, borderline or otherwise. The Church has judged this to be the case, and we do not judge the Church.

Masterbation is by definition an act of sin. I do not recommend it, but to act according to the impulse of desire, by moral means, approve a concept of conscience, which explains your morality, moral desire, and moral understanding of the concept at hand.

I respectfully have to disagree with your overall premise. Porn is horrendously damaging. There might be a few out there who might have looked at Playboy a few times and escaped any sort of damage, but there are countless lives and marriages that have been destroyed over porn.

Look at this guy here in Atlanta that was looking at porn and was sexting while his son died in the back of a car in a parking lot. I know a woman whose brother got some porn and then started molesting her. This forum is flooded with people who are trying to escape it. I myself have faced that struggle. Masturbation is a slippery slope, and against church teaching. Porn can bring about the death of the soul at its worst.

This conversation is really surprising to me. I mentioned the damaging consequences of porn and masturbation only in passing, because I assumed it was self-evident. Every group of serious individuals with no ulterior motive but to improve their life have confirmed this. And science is very much in line with it. NoFap gets most of it’s info from www.yourbrainonporn.com. But regardless, I’m shocked there’s even a hint of acceptance of this. As Catholics we should condemn it emphatically and unreservedly as the scum it is. It’s absurd this conversation even had to be had on a Catholic forum.

My main point of posting this thread was for some suggestions from a Catholic point of view, as I was certain I’m not the only Catholic who struggles with this. I don’t feel pessimistic or depressed about the issue, I’m dealing with it as best I can. But I wanted to see if there were any other things - aside from the secular approach I’m taking to overcoming it - that might be helpful.
