I found this good article on the www.domusdei.org blog about a parish in Norcross, Georgia called St. Patrick’s. It’s a very (name removed by moderator)iring/encouraging story of a parish. **Does anyone else have stories like this? Perhaps about their own parish or one they have recently visited? **

Thanks! Here’s a portion of the article with the link below it:

“Watered-down Catholicism? You will not find it here — Father Hennessey preaches the truth in season and out of season, convenient or not convenient. From condemnation of abortion and contraception, the promotion of the family and raising of children, to the errors of Protestantism — expect to hear the full truth and nothing but the truth on a regular basis.”

I found more great stuff on this parish on 2 separate posts on this blog, (the contributor was attending the parish around Christmas time):

This one is especially interesting:

Stories like this give me hope and my point in posting it here was to hear other stories that some of you may have of great parishes like this one. Any comments?

Well well, St Patricks wasn’t always as in op…

very good…

I would have to say that my parish is not Catholic-lite.
And there have been a few threads stating other parishes around the country talking Pro-life and pro-Catholic.
Yesterday we had a homily about the horror of Divorce.

Some people don’t like to be told what to do. But our young priests are realizing they have a vocation and not a job.

James, you will not believe how your post is a direct answer to my prayer! Often, and again just before clicking on this topic, I’ve been wondering where to find an orthodox parish near me…and I’ve wondered about St. Patrick’s…and there is your post!! Thank you, Jesus :)). I visited St. Pat’s once a year or so ago on a Saturday vigil Mass when the parochial vicar was celebrating, and he spoke softly in a foreign accent during his homily, so I didn’t get a real feel for how the parish is (in fairness to the priest–how could I after only attending once?) and I know I need to try again on a Sunday morning. The problem is, their website is chronically outdated, at least the last time I checked. Also, it’s not that close to me…about an hour away. But it’s been recommended as being orthodox. The interesting thing is, when I attended, I could tell it had been a typical modern-architecture parish that had been remodeled with a beautiful old-style marble sanctuary including a small altar rail. The Mass was a Pauline Mass with some Latin used, but then it ended with a banal Gather-type song. Interesting–and I want to try it again, hopefully this time with Fr. Hennessy. Thank you so much! I’m not really wanting to go completely Tridentine (haven’t attended one yet, still)–but I want a reverent, EWTN style Mass. And most importantly–orthodox teaching! Where they don’t make you feel like a troublemaker if you ask about Church teachings…I’m just so tired and have been through so much–I hate struggling with my anger during Mass. Then again, I keep thinking maybe this is a path to holiness? But then there’s self-righteousness…it gets so exhausting.
Does anyone know of other orthodox parishes north and east of Atlanta, by any chance?

I was in Reno, NV for work and attended St. Thomas Aquinas for Sunday Mass and for the Immaculate Conception. Those folks now how to use frankincense is all I can say. It was a wonderful experience to go to a very reverent and joyful Mass where they actually ask you in their bulletin to take your young children out if they become too unrully. It was nice.🙂
