Truth on Earth

Do Protestants believe that there is Truth on earth? Where do they go to settle disputes on interpretation? Scripture cannot be used to settle disputes unless there is an infallable authority to say this is what God meant. If all was needed was to sit down and study the scriptures and the Spirit will lead you to the truth then why is there more than one church. Obviously the Spirit does not lead in different directions, yet we see many disagreements on interpretations of scripture, A scripture that I might add does not come with an infallable table of contents. How does one know for sure what he has is truly inspired scripture. No book in the bible authenticates its own inspiration. How can one come to an infallable decision on differences of interpretation Did not Christ say to take disputes to the Church for definitve answers. Where is the Church in Protestant Land where one can go for an infallable interpretation of scripture. My Savior did that for me, Yours didn’t? Too bad. I guess you’ll have to hope that your preacher guesses right when studying, but if he does that then he would be Catholic. Wish you luck, Hopefully I will see you in heaven or most likely Purgatory.

I kinda think you’re missing the point of *sola scriptura. *Most protestants believe the Bible to be the final authority on important things such as salvation, but obviously the Bible doesn’t talk about everything that one faces in everyday life.

You see, the Bible has many teachings on morality, and by making oneself thoroughly knoledgeable about these teachings, a protestant can make an informed decision on an issue. Certainly you’ve heard the common mantra “What would Jesus do?”. This is akin to what protestants believe. I know it sounds presumptious to believe that a human is capable of making a decision as God would, however, the Bible gives us a good understanding about what God is like.

Also, protestant denominations do have specific teachings on issues similar to catholic cannons, dogmas, catechisms, etc…
It is important to remember that protestants and catholics may have many different beliefs about petty little doctrines, but when you get down to it, they both have many believers that profess a deep faith in Christ as their savior. How you arrive at this belief is up to you, but the end result of heaven is always the same.

So then what is the sola Scripturist’s recourse when there are conflicting ideas on matters dealing with salvation?

It is important to remember that protestants and catholics may have many different beliefs about petty little doctrines, but when you get down to it, they both have many believers that profess a deep faith in Christ as their savior.

Where does scripture draw a distinction between those doctrines which are petty and little and those which are not? If it’s not in scripture then who is it that’s deciding which doctrines are petty and which are not?
