Praying for you…
Our Father
Hail Mary
Glory be to the Father
Do you want to talk about it???
Sure! I dunno if I should start another thread?
Oh and by the wat THANK YOU ALL for the prayers! Appreciate it
My thoughts started with abortion…should the BIG LEVEL directors of abortion be hung like the Nazis(who killed FAR LESS people) were at Nuremberg?
Investigating more, most people HERE say no, never. My local pro life director said no, only if we cannot properly protect society from them otherwise(which we can in modern prisons probably).
But researching on my own I found a lot of stuff like this…
The secular power can, without mortal sin, exercise judgment of blood, provided that it punishes with justice, not out of hatred, with prudence, not precipitation -Pope Innocent III
Even when there is question of the execution of a condemned man, the State does not dispose of the individual’s right to life. In this case it is reserved to the public power to deprive the condemned person of the enjoyment of life in expiation of his crime when, by his crime, he has already dispossessed himself of his right to life. -Pius XIII
“reparation for evil and scandal, compensation for injury, and satisfaction for insult are conditions for forgiveness.” -John Paul II
And, accordingly, they who have waged
warin
obedienceto the divine command, or in conformity with His
laws, have represented in theirpersons
the publicjustice
or the wisdom of government, and in this capacity haveput to death
wickedmen; such
personshave by no means violated the*commandment,
You shall notkill.” (City of God, Bk I, 21) -St. Augustine
“Far from being guilty of breaking this commandment [Thou shall not kill], such an execution of justice is precisely an act of obedience to it. For the purpose of the law is to protect and foster human life. This purpose is fulfilled when the legitimate authority of the State is exercised by taking the guilty lives of those who have taken innocent lives.” -Catechism of Trent
OF COURSE, a lot of those ancient and medieval sources, I would venture to assume, lived in a time where there were not proper modern prisons to hold these people. So I think my pro life director’s answer stands…
The Church has never said the death penalty is intrinsically evil, they said that it is evil to kill a criminal when not necessary for the safety of society, that is my current understanding. Correct me if I am wrong. Cheers
