Tug-of-war addiction?

Like many others, I spend a lot of time both reading and posting on CAF, but much more of the former than the latter. From these experiences, it seems like an inordinate number of conversations turn into an endless tug-of-war between Catholic and protestants (or Orthodox and Catholics, etc).

This makes me wonder: Do you think there’s such a thing as a tug-of-war addiction?

Disclaimer: I’m not, in any way, suggesting that this is less true of me than anyone else here … I just think it is easier to observe it in someone else than in oneself.
Yes!

And I think all of us need to watch out for this, EVERY ONE of us.

There is a tendency among all humans to become tribal about our beliefs, and exclude others, and to see the demonic in others and not in ourselves.

Christ shows us a better way.

“But why lookest thou on the mote that is in the eye of thy brother, but observest not the beam that is in thine eye?” - Matthew 7:3

I also like what Baha’u’llah said about this:

"If the fire of self overcome you, remember your own faults and not the faults of My creatures, inasmuch as every one of you knoweth his own self better than he knoweth others. "
