TV: "Better Call Saul"

Did anyone watch the premiere of this show this weekend?

It’s a spinoff of AMC’s Breaking Bad. Set in 2002, it’s the story of Saul Goodman, the lawyer in the aforementioned show, before his dealings with Walter White.

I liked the first two episodes, and I think it’ll be a good series. However, I think one has to be familiar with Breaking Bad to appreciate the show’s storytelling and morbid sense of humor.
 
I am looking forward to it. My husband and I have DVRed Breaking Bad (they replayed the entire series on AMC over the past few months) and just started the second half of the last season. We want to finish it before watching Better Call Saul. I had heard that it looked promising based on the first two episodes. Saul was/is one of our favorite characters from BB.
 
Enjoyed the first two programs a lot. That it is a prequel is pretty evident - Tuco shows up, and I’m wondering when Mike Ermentraut will get out of the parking lot booth and into his “enforcer” role.
 
I caught the first episode,missed last night.I found it entertaining in a quirky way.Have never seen Breaking Bad.I would watch Saul again.

You will enjoy the show much better if you have seen Breaking Bad. 👍
 
Who is the actor who plays Saul? I only watched a few shows of Breaking Bad. A little too dark for me. I had not even heard of this one.
 
I enjoyed the first two episodes but I also felt that they moved slowly. I guess it is hard to be patient to wait for the character development. But these writers have a way of drawing out each scene that we got used to in BB. I guess I thought that it would be a little faster moving.
 
The guy who plays Saul was interviewed on the Dennis Miller radio show this week. Turns out he was a writer on SNL years ago when Miller was there. They’ve known each other since then. The guy’s name is Bob Odenkirk. Hilarious. He was just about the best part of Breaking Bad.

Interesting. I think Saul and Miller have a similar delivery.
 
What is wrong with me that I was laughing when those poor guys were going to the hospital with their legs broken in episode 2?😦

I think the makers are giving it their all to stand Better Call Saul up on its own. However, there were definitely a few plot points already that have a lot of value for Breaking Bad fans.

Don’t worry, I was laughing too. I also laughed when Jimmy (Saul) and Tuco were in the desert negotiating what kind of injuries the two skaters would sustain. It’s supposed to be darkly funny and to make you cringe. Think of it this way: in real life, such a situation may steer con men away from trying to swindle people by faking injuries.

The message from Breaking Bad was about how crime, drugs etc no matter what the motives to start does not end well and affects many that you care about and many that you may not even know. It also shows that there are no shortcuts. I am confident that even though “Saul” is a likable character, (much like Walt) that the message will continue down a path of a cautionary tale. The first episode intro kind of showed us that in “Breaking Bad” style black and white foreshadowing…

Saul is awesome.

I know
 
Plenty of lawyers with the ethical standards of Saul .

The situation in the desert is not far fetched by any means.

He could have just walked away. I think he honestly tries to do the righ thing but goes back to Slippin’ Jimmy.
