TV Host Bill Maher Suggests Dick Cheney’s Death Would Save Lives
WASHINGTON — More people in the world would live if Vice President Dick Cheney died, political commentator Bill Maher said, raising few eyebrows despite suggesting the death of the U.S. vice president would be a good thing.
During a visit to Afghanistan late last month, a suicide bomber detonated himself outside Bagram Air Base where Cheney was visiting. Several Afghans and a U.S. soldier were killed, but Cheney was unhurt.

Don’t hold your breath.

I consider Dick Cheney to be a truly loathsome person, but this is way over the top. However, remember that Maher is a Libretarian, not a classic liberal…by any stretch of the imagination.

That may be true, but the more telling thing is that the left is predictably silent on this while going nuclear on Coulter.

Yes, I think Cheney has had a malign influence on the Bush Administration. But wishing someone dead is far beyond the bounds of acceptable behavior by adults.

I am not familar with Maher except from seeing a few episodes of “Politically Incorrect”. My impression is that he steers his own course, making jokes about anyone regardless of their political affiliation. I wouldn’t call him a liberal.

“I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.”

If there is outrage from the right, I haven’t heard it. Mr. Maher is a libertarian with a show on HBO, so I don’t know why he’s the left’s responsibility. I always thought that libertarians were more like Republicans. He still shouldn’t have said that.

Remember this why he was fired from his tv show after 9/11. He made some very anti-american remarks. He is to the far left as Ann Coutler is to the far right.

The world would almost certainly be a better place if Dick Cheney were not VPOTUS. However, wishing him murdered isn’t a good thing to do. Not only would it be a very wrong thing to do, it would also almost certainly be counterproductive. Not a good plan.

Isn’t this the same logic that extreme anti-abortion activists use when bombing abortion clinics, or murdering doctors that work in them?

The far left and the far right sit next to one another as brothers at the same table of hate.

He is a petty and mean man given to saying outrageous things. And his audience is shrinking, thankfully. He is a libertarian, but he is embraced by the left because he agrees with them regarding members of the administration. I can’t imagine anyone wasting one minute of their time watching this guy.

I cannot stand Dick Cheney. I do not think he has the United States’ best interests in mind- I think he just wants to pad his own pockets. I do not think he is truly as conservative as he says either. I do not trust him at all. He is probably my least favorite Republican politician. That being said…I don’t wish him dead, or anything like that- he won’t be vice president after just a few more years and I’ll be able to rest easy. It is HIGHLY unlikely that he would be elected president (and he would never, under any circumstances, get my vote if he were to run).

Can you provide a cite for this? I dug around a bit, but couldn’t find ratings with that level of detail, nor could I find any article discussing the ratings of his show.

I completely agree. You can make a compelling case that more folks, especially civilians in Iraq, would be better off if Cheney were not Vice President. But Bill Mahr’s statement is morally dubious.

It always strikes me how people cite the civilians being killed in Iraq because of the war, hinting at genecide being prosecuted by Bush and Cheney. I wonder if these same people had the same level of outrage and concern when Hussein was killing Iraqi civilians.

I’ll see what I can find on his ratings in answer to your question. His original show was on ABC. He then opened his mouth, saying some ridiculous things after 9/11 and was cancelled shortly thereafter. I believe his current show is on HBO.

Maher is a self proclaimed “libertarian” in the same sense Jack Chick “loves Catholics”–I gave up on BM’s statist, snide, and manifestly unfunny “comedy” years ago
