From a homily given by one of our priests …

Twas the Advent of Christmas, when all through the home
All attention was focused, on tasks that need done.
Cleaning the house must surely begin
But do we make time for removing our sin.
Mom in the mini van, dad in the car
Searching for presents, instead of the star.
The presents are wrapped, with unusual flair
In hopes that all gifts, would surely be there.
The Children need driving all over the place
While activities and sports, family time, do replace.
We plot and we plan, for our family meal,
Approaching the Eucharist without the same zeal.
We write cards to friends to show that we care
A moment with Christ, a card all too rare.
Some carols and songs we herald with glee
Which speak of greed, like santa baby.
Out on the lawn pretty lights we do place
Frosty and Rudolph and Santa’s big face.
Nativity scenes in public we ban
Depicting God’s love is offensive to man.
Away from our minds the infant the Christ
Vague seasons greetings seem to suffice.
Parties and dinners bring tidings of Yule
Wishing Merry Christmas is against the rule.
The babe in the manger upon fallen snow
Has little to do with our Holiday flow.
This toy and that toy, iPOD® and Wii®
Our holiday season is all about me.
If only we stop with our secular fuss
** And see the true meaning – God came to Us!**
