The retired priest is no longer your Parish Priest: the new one is. Provided that he doesn’t stray too far from the guidelines, the arrangement of the sanctuary is the decision of your Parish Priest, not the former one. We are supposed to be a community of love and fellowship and you and your new Parish Priest should be sensitive to the wishes of the previous one. However, if the previous priest persists, the Bishop will explain to him in no uncertain terms what “retired” means.

Oh, I hope not.
The new priest could learn SO much from the retired one.
The retired priest was never a priest at our little mission, he was far too important for that. Whereas the current pastor is here so he can “learn the ropes”.
The “joke” motto of our mission reguarding priests is that we either “train 'em or bury 'em”.
Meaning we either get priests that are very old or brand new.
