I am so hurt by this news.

I can’t believe this is happening here in the US.

Is it too much to say that this is a presage for future similar acts? Is it too much to say that we are evermore facing martyrdom in this country?

How long until they start going to Churches during mass?

Pray for them…

Fr. Walker’s life was taken. Fr. Terra remains in critical condition but stable.

Please God help!

Praying for for the repose of Fr. Terra’s soul & for Fr. Walker’s health & recovery.

How terribly, terribly sad. I was tearful reading about this. The Priest that was killed was only 28. He had barely begun his vocation. It said that the older Priest although injured himself was able to administer the last rites to him. :signofcross:

“According to police, Rev. Terra opened the door of the Mother of Mercy Mission rectory to look into noises in the courtyard when Moran attacked him and beat him with a metal rod. Injured, Terra retrieved his .357-caliber handgun from his room, but Moran allegedly took it from him and robbed Terra at gunpoint before the priest blacked out. When he woke up, Rev. Walker had been shot by Terra’s gun.”

This is just so tragic and pertinent to the madness of guns for self defense. Fr Walker would most probably be alive today if they didn’t have a self defense gun on them. :signofcross:

I think Fr. Walker would most probably be alive today if they didn’t have an attacker. I’m sure Terra didn’t just buy that gun. What, because he had the gun it shot Fr. Walker by itself?

Say Terra had his gun for a long time, what makes the fact that Terra had a gun relevant to them getting attacked by a stranger and suffering loss?

Say the attacker had a gun also?

I’m a little tired of the blame the gun crowd.

I remember when in this country there were fewer gun restriction laws and the crime was not as high as it is today. The problem of this country is a different one. A much deeper problem and if people continue to blame the gun then the real problem will never be tackled.

Guns are the best instruments that we have for self-defense. I wish that all Priests carry would carry them or at least have them in their residence. We cannot afford to lose any more priests. However just like I would say for anyone, please take a safety course not only for how to handle a weapon but what to do in case of an emergency. Should a person hear something suspicious outside of his residence that person should not go to the sound. Rather, he should have a “safe room” established and practice going there if an emergency should arise. You should have a cell phone in that room at all times in order to call the police. You should lock yourself in and make the bad guy find you. If he finds you and begins to forcefully enter your room, pull the trigger. Guns are tools that one must learn to use correctly.

BTW I’m so angry with people who use incidents like this to further their anti-gun agenda. These priests are/were from my diocese and we are all hurting and in shock.
