Washington D.C., Oct 22, 2019 / 05:19 pm (CNA).- The U.S. Secretary of State listed promoting international religious freedom and fighting abortion as among U.S. foreign policy priorities in a Tuesday speech on diplomacy.

In his remarks, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo mentioned the second annual Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom hosted by the U.S. State Department in July, with religious leaders and survivors of religious persecution from all over the world in attendance as well as delegations from more than 100 countries.

He also spoke about a joint statement of the U.S. and 20 other countries at a recent meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, “rejecting the claim that abortion is a human right.”

Secretary Pompeo addressed the conservative Heritage Foundation’s President’s Club meeting on Tuesday, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.

This is the first part of a longer article that goes on to other matters, as it reports on what the Secretary of State said. This article is at www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/pompeo-highlights-religious-freedom-pro-life-goals-as-among-us-priorities-61813

He is in charge of the U.S. Department of State, which is responsible for carrying out U.S. foreign policy and international relations.

That is awesome. Human rights are for human beings.
The right to life is primary and foundational to any human right.

I’m assuming you mean something different from what this part of your post looks like on the surface? You may want to edit to avoid confusion, maybe by adding the word “Fighting” before the word “abortion.”

Glad to hear it. The USA’s FP initiatives and activities have been nothing less than barbaric over the decades.
Started with Kissinger.

President Trump made an outstanding appointment in Mike Pompeo.

Other efforts by the Trump Administration to fight abortion abroad:
  • President Trump not only reinstated the Mexico City Policy, but expanded it to the new Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance program. This new policy ensures that our tax dollars are protected from funding the abortion industry overseas across ALL global health spending, not just family planning dollars. The Bush-era Mexico City Policy protected roughly $500 million in spending – the new Trump policy protects over $8.8 billion overseas aid from funding abortion.
  • Defunded the Pro-Abortion UNFPA
The UNFPA has long been complicit in China’s oppressive population control activities, including birth limitation policies and forced abortions. President Trump’s State Department cut U.S. Taxpayer funding to the UNFPA.
