I’m moved to add a thread for the purpose of ‘intra-Catholic ecumenism,’ a more than have serious term referenced by my pastor in today’s homily.

His lesson today was on division: how it is to be avoided and the seriousness it causes. Clearly, he was alluding to not just the SSPX talks, but the greater set of differences between ‘liberals’ and ‘conservatives’ and how this is a point of conflict.

It was pretty inspiring and was a beautiful reminder that, we must never forget, our end purpose is simply Christ Jesus.

As I understand it, the message was to abide by the teachings of the Church and not foment conflict. With this in mind, I know that there have been very passionate expressions of opinion, particularly in this thread on many subjects, especially liturgical.

I am an OF person because my parish is orthodox in its use and has a strong community as a result; no question, this is in large part due to our great priests. I defend traditionalist communities because of the division caused by those within the Church pursuing vain and self-indulgent paths. That is not to say that the same can be true the other way around.

Sometimes, I think that progressives succeed in labeling more traditional types with unflattering qualifiers. That they are absolutists to the point of condemning as heresy the OF, that they devote themselves only to critiquing masses, etc.

The truth is far from that. And I think that there should be a thread that makes that clear 👋 And sometimes I know I get wrapped up in the difference of form, and that can detract from what we are seeking, which is perfect worship of, reference toward, and devotion to Jesus Christ.

I’m at the same type of parish that you are. You can tell a great parish when you find that you’ve changed noticeably.

I enjoyed your post. Thanks.
