By Terry Vanderheyden

EDINBURGH, UK, January 10, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Scotland’s Western Isles has banned same-sex civil ceremonies after Britain brought in the marriage-like institution last month.

According to The Universe Catholic News agency, a campaign from church leaders of all denominations mobilized the people to oppose the civil services being offered by marriage commissioners elsewhere in the country.

You forget. Here in the US, we have judges who think they are above the legistators and impose their will in a oligarchial manner.

divorce is not allowed in the Church, except divorce from reality, I see.

Whoa!!

Don’t get too carried away with yourself, this is in Scotland.

I knew when I saw the title that it would be Scotland or Northern Ireland. 🙂

I can virtually guarentee there will not be any change in the rest of GB.

In Northern Ireland there were protestors to the first couple who got a SSU, but if there were a group who tried to protest in London or Machester, they would probably be laughed off the streets. 😃

And as for this national movement of Catholics, I think that has been strongly over exaggerated. I really doubt there will be much action in my diocese, I don’t think the Bishop would tolerate protests or sermons from either side.

The Church does permit divorce in certain circumstances.

Actually the Chuch does not permit divorce. The whole point of an anulment is to determine if a sacremental marriage took place in the first place. As one who went through an anullment I can tel you the civil divorce was easier!

According to the Church (emphasis added):
CCC 2383 The *separation *of spouses while maintaining the marriage bond can be legitimate in certain cases provided for by canon law.

If civil divorce remains the only possible way of ensuring certain legal rights, the care of the children, or the protection of inheritance, it can be tolerated and does not constitute a moral offense.
