Yes, you can attend a service at this Church and fulfill your Sunday obligation. (someone correct me if I am wrong…but I don’t think so!)

Thank you always wanted go to an eastern Orthodox Church and this seemed the best thing I just want see the liturgy and stuff.

I prefer Russian Orthodox services to Greek Orthodox or Byzantine Catholic - actually I also prefer Western (Latin) Catholic to be honest. Have never visited Ukrainian Greek Catholic. The choirs for the Russian Orthodox Church are really beautiful - I am curious if Greek or Russian Orthodoxy would have more impact on a Ukrainian Greek Catholic service. Anyway, Orthodoxy I don’t believe fulfills Sunday obligation - but you can certainly visit a Vespers service at an Orthodox Church assuming you can find one. Enjoy your visit - you can take communion with an Eastern Catholic rite. (if you are Catholic, in good standing)

Yes! The UGCC is Catholic. Just as Catholic as the Roman rite. So YES. It saddens me that questions like this are still routinely asked on CA. Sad reality that most Roman rite Catholics know virtually nothing about the Eastern Catholic Churches.

Their liturgy is of the Slavic tradition and thus very similar to the Russian Orthodox tradition.

I do apologise I only properly came back to the catholic church last year after years of atheism followed by Protestantism. So I didn’t even understand there was an eastern right till last year.

I have been fascinated by it as the same with Catholic, but something always feels ancient about eastern churches. So I wanted to go I just wanted to double check.

Sometimes those small Eastern ethnic churches can seem uninviting, unfriendly to visitors, especially if the group there is very small and tight knit. Don’t take it personally. Introduce yourself or smile to a few people if you can. Stick to yourself the first few times, focusing on the service, praying to God.

I should also say other Eastern Catholic Churches have been very friendly to me though - people spot me as a newcomer and approach me.

Good luck - and again if you like the service go back - the people, at least a few, will warm to you. Be patient if you get a chilly reception at first.

I’ve found the Melkites to be very hospitable. But of course that’s the legendary Middle Eastern hospitality :).

On the 2nd Saturday of the month there is a Liturgy in English . This Liturgy is for the Society of St John Chrysostom and all are welcome.

You will be made very welcome there
