Recently, a very nice lady was explaining to me the differences among Ukrainian Churches. She got into Orthodox, nationalistic, and Catholic…I’m sorry to say that i didn’t have tine to ask questions and was thoroughly confused. Would anyone here please give me a quick primer on the Church in Ukraine?

I think the “Church of Ukraine” is referring to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.The Ukranian-Greek Catholic Church is in full communion with Rome. I hope this helps.

This is my guess as to what she meant.

Orthodox=Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarchate
Nationalistic=Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Kyivan Patriarchate
Catholic=Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church

I don’t know how much I’ll remember, but thanks for exposing me to all this information! 🙂

You can go to this Church, celebrate the Divine Liturgy (Mass) and receive the sacraments there, as a practicing Catholic.

In our church we have people who are RC and have come over because they enjoy the Divine Liturgy. Our parish is small so the Liturgy is 3/4 English, 1/4 Ukrainian, and all the readings and homily are done in English. Bigger parishes that have 2 Sunday Liturgies can split them up so one is English, the other Ukrainian.

If you can, stop by and visit one on a Sunday. My husband, when we were dating, came with me and really loved the service. He’s been there with me ever since. We’ve been under some holy priests who have passed from this life. I’m so very glad they were our ‘fathers in faith’.

Of the three, only the last is in communion with Rome.
