Um, why does Vince McMahon prefer big guys for male professional wrestlers?

Um, is it all about the money, or is there something else at play? Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better.

Maybe bigger “sells.” Are you forgetting it isn’t actually about real wrestling? 🥴

Irishmom2, I’ve known for quite a while now that the outcomes of pro-wrestling matches are usually predetermined.

Because wrestling isn’t real, it is dangerously fake. Big guys are slightly less likely to be injured doing stunts.

Because if he hires small guys and they suddenly grow lots of muscles he has to investigate them for steroid use.

Because he’s not looking for size, he’s looking for the look. The look tends to include size, though.

But not always known to the wrestlers. Apparently that news is sometimes given to them by the refs. When things are over-rehearsed they tend to look over-rehearsed.

So then what is your point?
Aspiring pro wrestlers shouldn’t feel that they have to be physically larger than normal human beings in order to be successful in the business.

Well bigger guys will naturally have an advantage in a physical contest, so naturally more big men will gravitate towards professional wrestling due to their size advantage. It also likely gives them an advantage in their reach as well, which would further help them to hold off their opponents. The big men have a greater chance of winning matches due to these characteristics.

However, there have been many smaller wrestlers that have succeeded in WWE despite their smaller physical stature. Rey Mysterio was World Heavyweight Champion in 2006 despite being less than 200 pounds, and Daniel Bryan is a multi-time WWE Champion despite being undersized compared to many of his contemporaries. Nowadays many of the smaller wrestlers have found ways to compensate for their size disadvantage through intense cardio and their impressive speed. They don’t always win, but hey, everyone has off days every once in awhile.

Well, Weserthy, why do you think Vince McMahon has preferred big, muscular guys for male professional wrestlers?

🤔 Weserthy answered that in the post you quoted.

It’s the theatrics of a bigger look. 94 pound guy might have good technique but looking into camera and saying he would lay waste to his opponent would look ridiculous. And big guys bounce on the ring floor better than lightweights. Who would you want in your corner, the late Macho Man or a little Winnie the Pooh type? M.M. would scare everyone LOL. R.I.P.

Irishmom2, keep in mind that back in the early '90s, Vince McMahon had an organization called the World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF for short). It failed in the end, but the very fact that the WBF existed should indicate something in the case of Mr. McMahon.

Yeah, so? I don’t understand why this seems to bother you so much…

Well, Irishmom2, does a male professional wrestler have to have inflated muscles in order to make it in the business? Can a male pro wrestler really maintain such a look year-round without using anabolic steroids?

In fighting sports - real or fake- ‘bigger’ contestants are generally perceived as probable winners.

Maybe Maxirad is disappointed that he did not get picked by Vince? 😂

What’s your point here?
As I’ve asked Irishmom2, does a male professional wrestler have to have inflated muscles in order to make it in the business? Can a male pro wrestler really maintain such a look year-round without using anabolic steroids? The average American male doesn’t need a huge, muscular physique in order to succeed in life, much less the WWE in particular.

The real wrestlers are Taylor, Burroughs, Dake, Snyder, Cox…
US has many great talents and I think that even if freestyle wrestling and greco roman wrestling is not really commercial, but
  1. it requires more intellectual spectator
  2. believe me, these kind of guys will finish up any body very fast, I mean that no MMA can fight with them.
Free style wrestlers is something, my friends
