How does one do a novena? For example, do I do a Sacred Heart novena for 9 consecutive days or for 9 consecutive months?

I asked this question yesterday, but it went unanswered.

A novena is a series of nine prayers.

Usually it’s 9 days, but it could be nine months – as in the case of 9 first Fridays or Saturdays.

It could also just be praying a certain prayer nine times in however much time it takes you to say that prayer mindfully and engaging your heart.

I don’t know the Sacred Heart novena, so I cannot comment on that.

Most novenas tell you how to pray them – “Prayers for Day One” for example.

Prayer is all about the heart being united to God. If you have interest in doing a novena for a certain intention or focus, google it and see what you find.

God bless you!

I posted an answer to your question, in the original thread.

I’m doing the Novena of the Sacred Heart, and I am doing both the 9 days and the 9 months.
