Just curious if the graces/indulgences that are promised with wearing the pardon cross apply if the cross is not blessed.
I have one, but due to the quarantine am unable to get it blessed.

Thanks!

I don’t beleive the indulgences Pius X attached to the Pardon Crucifix are still in effect as Indulgentiarum Doctrina suppressed all but “the most important” indulgences. That was in 1967 and the Pardon Crucifix was not listed in the Enchiridion Indulgentiarum published in 1968.

Because of that, a Pardon Crucifix would fall under all other crucifixes which I beleive only has a partial indulgence attached when it has been properly blessed by a priest (it is plenary on the Feast of Ss. Peter and Paul when blessed by a bishop).

I just got a statue of Mary and cant get it blessed. It prompts me as a reminder of how Mary lived Her life and to pray longer.

When Blessed I cant say if this statue will perfect my prayers but I hope so.

Ps I have a pardon crucifix at the end of my penetential rosary…that I was able to get blessed as I had it for years. So I understand.
God loves you and would prefer you to pray on an unbleassed sacramental regularly then once in a while with a blessed one. I hope I explained this clearly.

First, there is no longer any specific indulgence attached to using the Pardon Cross specifically. That was done away with decades ago when the Manual of Indulgences was updated and eliminated most of the very specific indulgences.

Second, if we just regard the Pardon Cross as a crucifix to be used in prayer generally, then if you have it blessed by any priest or deacon, you can get a partial indulgence by praying with it as an “article of devotion” (same for any other type of crucifix). If you get it blessed by a bishop or the Pope, you can get a plenary indulgence by praying with it on the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul (June 29). You cannot get these indulgences for using an unblessed crucifix. So yes, you need to have it blessed.

Third, regarding graces, you still get grace by praying sincerely with an unblessed sacramental such as your crucifix in its unblessed state. If you get it blessed, then the additional blessing is considered to be an additional sacramental and you would presumably get more grace as you’d be praying with two sacramentals.

All things considered, just use it to pray with now and then get it blessed when you can.
