  • According to this, Limbo was never a part of the Sacred Deposit of the Doctrine of the Faith.
  • Well, it appears that we now have a problem on our hands. Doesn’t the church ALSO teach that at the end of time ONLY heaven and hell will exist?
Given that and your points 1 & 2 above, the ONLY place for these souls is that they will cease to exist – I can’t see any other answer

… but …

if they cease to exist, then that would mean that they didn’t have an immortal soul and doesn’t the church also teach that we all have an immortal soul?

As I said up there, we seem to have a problem on our hands.
That is correct . We don’t have an answer to that question. Most likely we won’t until the end of time. But we do have theories and one of them is the possibility of a “Limbo” in either Heaven or Hell.

“Limbo of the fathers is known as hell” – can you please offer some references for this … I would like to read more about this.
The Hebrew language has different words we tend to translate as Hell. Sheol and Gehenna.

Could these babies desire to be baptised without ever having heard the gospel?🤷
…
Well, we have the example of John the Baptist leaping in the womb, which argues that babies, not even yet born, can know and desire more of God than can logically be explained.

It is incorrect to suggest that a parents desire for Baptism for their child provides Baptism of Desire. I realize that is not exactly what you said, but some may read it that way.
I don’t find that hard to believe.I LIKE that idea!
Besides, the baby murderers see an unborn child as some sort of tumor anyway,
so, if s/he is still part of the mother then,…well,…it just makes sense that her desire would be the babies desire?Conversely when the baby wants to eat, mommy wants to eat!

👍

I thought I read recently that the “Limbo of the Fathers” (sounds like a cheesy 70s dance album) was indeed in Hell (“He descended into Hell” - Apostle’s Creed) but not Hellish per se; sort of like a waiting room with A/C and up-to-date magazines.
:rotfl:
EVERYBODY! LIMBO!

(how low can you go?)
:rotfl:

Limbo was never an official church doctrine.

Limbus patrum

Though it can hardly be claimed, on the evidence of extant literature, that a definite and consistent belief in the limbus patrum of Christian tradition was universal among the Jews, it cannot on the other hand be denied that, more especially in the extra-canonical writings of the second or first centuries B.C., some such belief finds repeated expression; and New Testament references to the subject remove all doubt as to the current Jewish belief in the time of Christ. Whatever name may be used in apocryphal Jewish literature to designate the abode of the departed just, the implication generally is
Code:
* that their condition is one of happiness,
* that it is temporary, and
* that it is to be replaced by a condition of final and permanent bliss when the Messianic Kingdom is established

The Baby is a separate human person with separate DNA from that of the mother.

Not that that really matters, a person cannot desire Baptism for another person.

Well, of course one can desire baptism for another.
What your saying is that the desire isn’t the same as the Baptism.
Right?😉
1 Timothy 2:4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
