Was the Greek scriptures written in uncial letters? Since upper and lower case letters were determined later then John 6:64 may have looked like this

…and the words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life. 🙂

Forgive my obtuseness, but I don’t quite see what you are saying here. Is it: If John had been writing in the modern mode of upper and lower case letters Jn. 6:64 would have looked like this “…and the words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and Life”?

If so, what is it you wish us to discuss? Once again I apologize for not understanding your point. :o

Actually, it would have looked like this:

ANDTHEWORDSTHATIHAVESPOKENTOYOUARESPIRITANDLIFE

Only in Greek, not English.

Well, when I took Greek, all the words were not run together that I recall. But for the life of me, I can’t remember when capial letters came in. And even then, I do not know if that would have made a difference; capitalizing Spirit and Life may have been much later…

As the height of the letters would be the same, the significance of particular words would not be distinguishable by special capitalisation 🙂

After a time, there was a convention of writing PNEUMA [or PNEUMA] (= spirit, breath) - for example - as (IIRC), PNA with a line over the top; to show it was abbreviated. And Divine Names might be written in a colour of their own: gold, or purple.

Icons have abbreviations for names very often - such as the Perpetual Help picture.

Hope that helps 🙂 ##

Greek as it’s taught now is not run together, but we’re talking about the very earliest manuscripts. There are pictures or facsimile pages on the 'net, but I don’t know where right off hand.

Spirit is God
Life is Jesus and therefore God
The words of the Word of God give you God
