I went to a bar slash club the other night with a group of Catholic friends. We all know each other from bible study and church activities (saying that I’m sure some of them are members of this forum). Every now and then we will all go out and catch up with each other. I don’t know what it is about dancing and drinking and beautiful people that make me so uncomfortable, but it’s beginning to be some what of an annoyance. I go out to relax and have a good time but I feel like I can’t be free from myself. I can’t let go and have a good time with out feeling guilty and regreting the good time that I tried to have. I want to socialize with these people and fit in with the group I feel is where I belong. Who else will I socialize with if I can’t even go out with a group of good Catholics. I think I will see myself secluded from the world if I start to do so. Maybe I should just become a Monk! I’m not sure if this has to do with something from past experiences or if I’m self conscience about something, but I do know that it really sucks to be hesitant about these things. It just seems to feel wrong, why should it feel this way when I’m around a group of people I can relate with. I see how rich their faith is and I trust them to do the right thing…but it still feels wrong. I’m tired of feeling uncomfortable and was wondering if anyone maybe knew the cause and a possible solution to this problem? Thank you!

You should really consider seeing a therapist. You may have an anxiety disorder that could be treated so you don’t feel so uncomfortable.

Maybe it’s the venue you’re uncomfortable with and not the people you’re with? I know I prefer not being in a club not because of the people I’m with, but because of the reminder of how far from God we have strayed…it’s noticing others and they sometimes drink way too much, dress too immodestly and just mainly not considering how God wants us to be–and that kind of makes me a bit sad. Perhaps you could see if you feel the same if you met in a different setting.

From your post, I am wondering…what are you guilty about? A good time that you are trying to have? But you didn’t have a good time…:hmmm:Maybe they are the “wrong” group for you even though they are Catholic…maybe suggest that everyone get together at someone’s house for a smaller gathering every once in awhile…maybe when you all choose to go to a “bar”…check out something that’s more like a pub, with fewer people, and more laid back with “softer” music…BTW, I didn’t check out how old you are before posting.
