Things that snuff out Unconditional Love:

• Materialism
• Judging others based on our beliefs.
• Gossip about others.
• Selfishness
• Impatience
• Our differences of Church and State that causes Tension.
• Lack of Prayer and study of scriptures.

Bringing about Unconditional Love:

• Charity
• Patience
• Longsuffering
• Faith
• Prayer
• Being a LIGHT unto others
• Going out of your way to help others without seeking a reward.
• Loving your enemies no matter how hard it gets, without fail.

Catholic and Non-catholic: What is your (name removed by moderator)ut on what it will take to bring about Unconditional Love into the world?

I see a big spread of different faiths in this non-Catholic forum, and was interested in your (name removed by moderator)ut about Unconditional Love, and if a growing number of people practiced it, would it improve the spirituality of humanity? or not?

This was something I been thinking about posting for several months.

As a long time Mormon, I would have to say that I kinda flunk at this, as that I was mostly taught Doctorine, and wished that I taught more about Unconditional Love as I was growing up. I had fallen from the LDS faith somewhat as I have felt that not enough was taught about Spiritual Love and how Unconditional Love works, and how to go about it. Difficult post here.

We just had a sermon today on how to spread christianity in this horrible world.

It all boiled down to living a holy Godly life so those who mock us and try to condemn will not be able to because of the way we live our lives.

We need to always walk in the footsteps of Christ even though the world is against us. By walking in Christ’s footsteps–unconditional love will follow.

We must also speak the truth in humility and gentleness.

Bottom line is that we can show people Christ by our actions and not by our words. What are those actions you say

Galations 5 :22–

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other

Unconditional Love (metta) is a core teaching of the Buddha and its practice is one of the Sublime Abodes of meditative thought. The others are Compassion, Altruistic Joy, and Equanimity. There are a number of teachings about these four but one of the most beautiful is the Metta Sutta. It is one of the oldest and most loved teachings of the Buddha.

This is what should be done
By one who is skilled in goodness,
And who knows the path of peace:
Let them be able and upright,
Straightforward and gentle in speech,
Humble and not conceited,
Contented and easily satisfied,
Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways.
Peaceful and calm and wise and skillful,
Not proud or demanding in nature.
Let them not do the slightest thing
That the wise would later reprove.

Wishing: In gladness and in safety,
May all beings be at ease.
Whatever living beings there may be;
Whether they are weak or strong, omitting none,
The great or the mighty, medium, short or small,
The seen and the unseen,
Those living near and far away,
Those born and to-be-born —

Im inclined to agree with you because we have too much pride and stubborness.
It is also called AGAPE love–I do think we are capable because of the power of the HS but we just dont tap into it.

Christ says it can exist. The Buddha says it can exist. We need to make it exist in our own lives.

If people don’t practice unconditional love, it certainly won’t exist.

Have confidence, practice, make the effort. The people of Myanmar have confidence.

I agree we should make the effort. I may even agree that it can exist. I just don’t think that it does exist. Unconditional Love to the extent that it exists, only exists until the person fails to live up to one of the unstated conditions, whatever they may be.

That is why it is called Practice.

Practice loving kindness.

Fail.

Practice again, Fail again.

Practice again and again.

Watch your failures get smaller and less frequent. Keep up the effort. The only condition of Loving Kindness is that you practice it.
