Why are the letters and writings of Phillip, Thomas, and other apostles considered uninspired?

What writings are these? I have never heard of any writings of Philip. The gospel of Thomas I think was written much later by someone else.

I guess that kind of answered my question the church determined them unauthentic, right? But I heard of the book of Phillip form a book entitled “the Gospel of Mary” (Magdeline). I can’t remember the author.

Another reason why those books were not chosen as scripture is because they did not fit what the church taught. The bible was put together based on what the church believed. The Gospel of Mary Magdalene and Thomas are very Agnostic books.

So far as we know, these wrtings were not actually written by their namesakes. For the most part, they were written by heretics.

The Catholic Church selected 27 out of many, many early Christian writings and named them the New Testament.

The Church established four tests that a writing had to meet in order to be accepted into the canon of NT:
  1. The writing had to have been attributed to or based on the preaching/teaching of the Apostles or their close companions, and:
  2. The writing had to have been accepted by all Christian communities in the ancient world by the end of the fourth century, and:
  3. The writing had to have been read aloud during the Church’s liturgy (weekly worship) – now called the Mass, and:
  4. The writing had to be compatible with the teachings of the Church and to other writings already recognized and accepted by the Church.
You can read the New Testament Apocrypha (writings that didn’t make the cut when the Church formed the NT) here:

Because most of these other writings are considered of apurious authorship, or the content of them conflicted with the established Gospels. Thomas in particular is considered a Gnostic work that wasn’t even written by Thomas, but rather a writer in the 2nd century, possibly by a follower of Arius or Valentinus.

Well you have good answers here.

The fact is that the early church had serious questions about the authenticity of those books. Most of the apostles really didn’t write anything.
