Wow…this is such a shocker…NOT!!! THis is a bunch of self-indulging hedonists posing as a Church…these people need our prayers…

ATLANTA - The United Church of Christ’s rule-making body voted overwhelmingly Monday to approve a resolution that endorses same-sex marriage, making it the largest Christian denomination to do so. The vote is not binding on individual churches, but could cause some churches to leave the fold.

Roughly 80 percent of the members of the church’s General Synod voted to approve the resolution. They debated for about an hour before voting.

On Sunday, a committee of about 50 United Church of Christ representatives gave nearly unanimous approval to the resolution, recommending that the General Synod approve it. It was supported by the UCC’s president, John H. Thomas.

Traditionally strong in New England, the liberal denomination of 1.3 million members has long been supportive of gays and lesbians.

Oh well, what do you expect from Protestants??!! :banghead:

I heard it that the UCC was first formed here in Cleveland. That figures!

Sorry to see ANOTHER (Christian Church?) split again.
That’s what you get when you don’t recognize where the REAL authority and guide of Christ’s Church resides from.*

*(Answer: Rome, the Catholic Church).

Heck, this is nothing. Unitarians made it mandatory years ago.

UCC aka Unitarians Considering Christ is a lukewarm church with a rapidly eroding membership. The local UCC is so desperate to get bums in pews they have a huge banner welcoming Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Bi Sexuals. Nothing about those involved in group sex or bondage so I guess they do have some kind of standard 😉

This is the same church that sponsored those offensive ads with the guards at the door of what was supposed to represent either the Catholic or Evangelical church. These guards only let in prosperous looking white heterosexual couples and turned away blacks, poor people and homosexuals. PUH LEASE!

I am not surprised they are backing homosexual ‘marriage.’ So what else is new. This is a church that stands for nothing so it falls for anything.

Very sad all of this, we want more unity and more moral development

Lisa N…UCC sounds interesting. I was raised Unitarian and haven’t heard of them. They don’t sound much different than UUs.

I bet there is a big debate over using the “C” word.

What a jerky post.

Ha ha so was I. Actually I was raised heathen but my parents would allow us to attend a Unitarian church as they knew our innocent minds wouldn’t be corrupted with talk of God or Jesus or any of those other silly myths.

Apparently the term United Church of Christ refers to all kinds of churches (check the other thread for non Catholic religions) but this is sort of the mainline of the group. They have long been extremely liberal and in fact the UCC was on the ‘ok’ list per my parents.

At any rate I think they believed that the schism caused by the homosexual bishop in the Episcopal church would help their cause as they have absolutely no issue with active homosexuality. So those objecting to the ceasing of ‘blessings’ of homosexual partnerships could find refuge in the UCC.

Joking aside, what can we do but pray for the members of these churches that they will find their way to the one true Church.

I don’t think that you realize that there are as many different type of Protestants as there are vitaaminis in a vitamin store.
Some are the apostate heretics that we’ve been introduced to in ECUSA, PCUSA and above. but others hold to the Bilbe and their religion with all their might, and live lives of such charity, chastity and prayer that would put many of us to shame.

I wish you would consider these and not be so triumphalist, esp. in the light of the event reported here:

Cardinal Mahoney supports event honoring a pro-abortion Catholic Mayor
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=63153

Please note that this is consistent with reports I’ve heard about Cardinal Mahony’s behavior towards orthodox Catholics in the Archdiocese of L.A.

Pray for the people who are in the United Churches of Christ that they would realize that the UCC is essentially a dead body and that they need to leave the UCC and that they find their way to the Catholic Church.

Meanwhile, please remember that you probably have more in common with the faithful Protestant who really tries to follow the word of God and live a Godly life in obedience to that than you do with a “cafeteria Catholic” or an apostate Catholic who picks and chooses which of the teachings of the Church he will follow and gets angry when someone calls him on that.

Christus Rex, Christian Charity almost always works better than snidenss, and your remark was snide at best. You might want to watch that - You’d be surprised at who you might cause to have second thoughts.

Don’t worry, I have to be careful at what I say, too.

Blessed are they who act to save God’s Little Ones. Michael

I sincerely believe that all of these modernistic moves being made by Protestant Churches will be the very action needed to cause people to come back to Holy Mother Church where they belong. We will see (I predict) a continuing erosion of the faith among many Protestant denoms, while the true Catholic faith will never go that way…true believing Christians will have no choice but to seek Christ in the Church He founded…

The protest/revolt begun by Luther and gang is slowly coming full circle back to where they belong.

In the end Christians will be one.

The same thought occurred to me. Well said!

Sorry if my comment was taken out of context/made offence!

All i meant was with the Protestant Churches with no central authority (i.e. the pope etc) they split apart and can’t make decisions on key issues. Simply look at the Anglican Church, you have the faithful on one side, and the apostate on the other, and they’re practically splitting as we speak!

Of course I realize a faithful and traditional Anglican etc. is closer than a lax ‘Catholic’ (if they can be called Catholics going by their views). I was talking about most Protestants, not ones who still hold to historic christianity.

Sorry once again! I wasn’t being snide. Forgive me? 🙂

Michael 😉

P.S. from whta I’ve heard of the infamous Cardinal Mahoney, he doesnt sound Catholic at all.

And a good friend from these forums wonders what keeps me from coming home to Rome… comments like this should be a hint. So I should use Bp. Thomas Gumbleton as an example and say, “well, what do you expect from Catholics?” Hardly.
