How does it compare to The Catechism of The Catholic Church?
The Catechism, strictly speaking, was meant as a reference material for Priests and Bishops already familiar with the advanced concepts and doctrines of Christianity. It was not necessarily meant for an uniformed layman to pick and learn the faith from.

This version would be more geared to the beginner hoping to learn about the faith. The original Catechism actually directs Bishops Conferences around the world to adapt its contents to local needs of their ministry. The USCCB here chose to publish such a work directed towards adults.

The original Catechism was issued while I ran the RCIA for our parish; we gave a copy to all catechumens and candidates. It was the only thing available at the time. After I retired due to age the Adult catechism was issued. My successor found it better and switched to it. From what I have observed it was a good choice.

I understand it’s intent, but I’m interested in how you feel they after reading both.

I wish more US Catholics would avail themselves of this fine work. It helps acquaint readers with the history of the Church in the country; and it’s a landmark in the improvement of material produced by the American bishops.
