Two years ago, a company which shall remain nameless offered a free flu shot to every employee.

One year ago, the company sent out an e-mail stating that there would now be a $10.00 fee for the flu shot … and that this $10.00 would be paid as a contribution to the United Way.

Again this year, the company has sent out an e-mail stating that it’s once again time for employee flu shots, and employees interested in participating should make out their $10.00 check payable to the United Way.

Since the United Way supports Planned Parenthood, it seems to me that one must abstain from the flu shot in order to keep a clear conscience.

Commentary in keeping with the official teachings of the Church welcome.

go to your local health clinic or doctor and get the shot if you need it…skip the United Way fundraiser!

Dear Karin,

If there’s a clinic available outside of working hours that’s a possibility, as opposed to skipping the shot entirely. I’ve vaguely heard of a clinic at a Wal-Mart (but while Wal-Mart is good for mentioning Christmas, they are now raising money for the homosexual agenda if you buy on-line, I hear?) not in my city this year, and a year or so ago my apartments sponsored one, … no word of one this year. Taking off time from work to make a doctor’s appointment for the purpose of getting a flu shot might raise some eyebrows. And it looks like I’d have to pay cash out of pocket, or raise more eyebrows if it was billed to the health insurance policy my company provides.

Sometimes just getting the flu sounds a whole lot less complicated! * not that I’d want to of course *

every time I get flu shots I get sick - much sicker than I ever got with the “flu” (which probably means I have never had the *real flu *in my entire life) but be that as it may - I skip flu shots all together.

If it raises eyebrows that you went to your Dr. for the flu shot than you can explain that you do not want to support UW and ABORITONS…you have health insurance coverage so who cares if they get billed for a flu shot that is what the insurance is for:)
If it is sucj an ordeal…than dont get the flu shot…I dont and I have never gotten the flu…I would think if you are not at risk for it why get it?

Dear quasimodo,

Wow … sorry to hear that you’ve suffered ill effects as a result of taking a shot designed to keep you healthy! At least it does seem that you have been naturally blessed with a good constitution. * smiles good greetings *

Dear Karin,

The people in my immediate vicinity where I work are already aware that I am pro-life, and I have already taken some flak for having spoken out in a courteous, direct manner when such topics have come up … there’s an outright hostility towards practicing Catholics in some quarters, which can indeed make instances like this an ordeal.

You are truly blessed if you have never gotten the flu in your life. You likely lead a healthier lifestyle when it comes to nutrition, I would guess. * smiles good greetings *
