I’ve always been against any kind of universal healthcare for the reason the article states. It would be best to try to regulate the insurance companies first. My main complaint is having certain types of healthcare like Guardisil forced on me. I am already forced to get vaccines for my children that I don’t think are necessary. (chicken pox, flu, Hep B)

I speak from experience as my husband is Army and we have Tricare which is basically Medicare for the military. There has been talk of putting money in families paychecks and allow them to buy their own insurance. But that’s been talk for the past 10 years.

We’ve also lived overseas and experienced both German and Italian health systems. They are nice and cover a lot, but it’s quite expensive and I don’t think most americans would want to pay it. Not to mention you have to buy extra private ins. to get a private room or other niceties, so it’s not really equal for all.

I don’t think that universal healthcare will be better than what we have…have you ever waited on line for a stamp? Imagine waiting on line like that, when you’re seriously ill, or waiting to get onto a list for a transplant or something. I work in the commercial insurance business, and the buzz here is that healthcare will change, in the way companies use brokers (the business I’m in)…and give employees an opportunity to have more control over their own plans, and what they choose…instead of a company picking ‘xyz’ for their whole company as the vendor of choice–an employee will have several plans and vendors to choose from, and then the company will foot part of the bill as it does now.

I also think that doctors shouldn’t be allowed to overcharge, for simple wellness visits. Hospitals should not be overcharging either. Once we get everyone that is involved with healthcare in line, we’ll see a more equitable situation for everyone here in the U.S.

But, the government getting involved to the level of mandating the HPV vaccine for example, is another example of why universal healthcare in that sense, would be a bad thing.
