Hello,

I was wondering if there was anyone who has done both the Bible Timeline AND the Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible studies from Jeff Cavins?

I’d like to know how similar they are. I don’t mind doing both, but it looks to me like the 8 session Mystery series is just a condensed version of the 24 session Bible Timeline series and it would be redundant to do both.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

Never heard of him…

In Catholicism …one can also find ‘timelines’

I have done both studies. The 8 session study is just a shortened version of the Bible Timeline. If you have already done the longer version the shorter version is not necessary.

That’s pretty accurate. However, from my experience, some folks blanch at the suggestion of a 24-week commitment. But, having had their interest piqued by the 8-week study, many clamor for the 24-week program!
They are different.
Hmm… how so? I’ve led both. They follow the same “timeline”, but the UMB study is much less detailed, and includes much less content (naturally, since it’s 1/3 the length, but goes nevertheless covers the same periods/books!)
Do Timeline first.
I would agree, but would phrase it as “if you have the time / opportunity, do the 24-week program. If you don’t, then go for the 8-week program (and don’t be surprised if it incents you to follow up with the 24-week study!).”

For people like me, who were raised reading and studying Scripture, have read the Bible all the way through countless times, I’d do Mysteries first.

For those who have not such familiarity with Scripture, I found the timeline to be a good foundation.

It is, but the comment I heard most often from folks in the studies I led was “what about this detail?” or “why didn’t he talk about those events?” or “what’s the reason behind that narrative’s assertions?”.

And, the answer every time was “those are great questions… but, in order to get through the entire timeline in eight weeks, the number of narratives covered – let alone the amount of detail on narratives that are actually covered! – is necessarily brief. The 24-week study goes into greater detail on that question.”

Yes the 24 week study is more in depth.

The 8 week study is meant to be a quick water ski across the surface. Birds eye introduction for the Biblically unfamiliar.

Just Saying - We do realize that Always Being Ready for any time - is Way Better
than never really being able to know the day and hour… no matter what we think…

“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
