Not sure what you mean, Margaret.
You mean you found a thread in the Unread view, and then it disappeared from the Unread list because you had read it, and now you can’t find it anymore?
Okay, if you were reading the thread for more than a few minutes, you are now probably “tracking” the thread, because that’s how this site works: you automatically track threads that you read for a few minutes – unless you changed this automatic behavior in
your preferences. This means the thread will show up in your Unread view again when someone posts there.
If noone posts, then you still have several options:
- If you remember the name of a user that posted there, go into their profile, and look at their “activity”. One of their (many) activities should be a post in the thread that you’re looking for.
- If you remember some phrase or a few words from the thread or its title, you can use the search function to find the thread. Hit Ctrl-F (or click/tap the looking glass at the top right). Before typing in the text or phrase, click “options”. This will open up a search screen. At the top, type your text, and then on the right-hand side, check the box “Only return topics/posts… I read.” (Actually you can skip this option if you want to, but then the search function might return a very large number of threads). Then, click the blue looking glass to the right of the text box where you entered the phrase. The screen will then show you all the threads you have read, and that contain the words you searched for.
I know all of this is a bit cumbersome. Finding threads that you have not posted in is not very easy on this forum, unfortunately.
