I’d try to find more real love in your life; from God by going to church and praying. More time with friends and family or a girlfriend if you don’t have one now. And as Padre Pio always said, Do not worry.

Yes, do this. If you start here, then other pleasures that pertain to the “Lower Appetites” will be much easier to let go of.

“The worst thing is not sin, it is the denial of sin.” - Venerable Fulton Sheen

Brother, how commendable and edifying for others to see you not only publicly admit your sins and weaknesses, but also to seek help for them! It chokes me up not just to see a fellow Christian brother struggle with the temptations of sin, but to admit full culpability in spite of the possible shame and guilt you could encounter.

Our Blessed Lord said that those who are forgiven much, love much. I have no doubt, by what is displayed in your post, that God will make you, yes you, into a great Saint! You have the right, not the privilege, but the right to God’s mercy. Trust in God’s endless Mercy, allow Him to hold your hand through your temptations, and never despair when you fall; for the just man falls seven times a day and Our Lord forgives us seven times seventy. I will include you in my Rosary intentions for daily courage, brother. May God love you and bless you!

Thank you for the links. I was already aware of The Porn Effect and Matt Fradd’s work. Although this alone has not been enough to overcome the temptations
I will take a look at the paid service site in more detail, this could we be an option for me. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks. I have the Covenant Eyes filter on my laptop, although nothing is fully ‘bullet-proof’ I guess.
Yes, the advice about getting more from existing relationships is a pertinent one. I can feel myself becoming isolated and not taking pleasure in the important things when my mind is flooded with lustful thoughts and temptations.

Thank you for the advice, much appreciated! I have seen quite a bit of Matt Fradd’s videos on this. He is great, although it will take a lot more work than watching advice videos for me. I would recommend him to anyone struggling with this issue though 🙂

Only at Lent. It is something I find spiritually nourishing. Perhaps something to consider. Thank you 🙂

Thank you. I must admit this post gave me goosebumps. I hardly feel worthy of the right atm but I will strive to work towards it. Maybe this challenge is before me for a reason.

One thing I didn’t mention. I am a virgin (in terms of intercourse) and have never had a girlfriend and probably have some element of phobia towards sex, like I have never fully rationalised it as a part of life. I am sure this is highly relevant to this matter also.

When a person regularly fasts, you learn to keep your bodily urges under control of your will.

praying for you.

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
thy kingdom come
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil. amen

Eternal God in whom mercy is endless
and treasury of compassion inexhaustable,
look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us
so that in difficult moments, we may not despair
nor become despondent but with great confidence
submit ourselves to your Holy will
which is love and mercy itself.
Amen.

Hi 🙂 first of all remember that Our Lord’s mercy is greater than all our sins. He loves you and will always do so no matter what. On that note, I am very happy that you are aware of the fact that you are doing wrong. That is the first step and a great grace in and of itself. Go to confession! He is waiting for you with open arms. Find a good confessor ( if you don’t have one already) and tell him of your struggles. Remember that Our Lord condemns none of us, but He does demand that we sin no more. Now, don’t fret! He knows we’ll fall time and time again, but after you go to confession ask Our Lady to help you make a firm resolution to not sin again. Hold on to Our Lady’s hand. She wants to help you more than you want to be helped. St. Augustine struggled just like you, talk to him and ask for his intercession. Pray for me, I’ll pray for you 🙂 You Can do it! Go to confession, return to Him

4 times in 6 weeks is not an ‘addicition’, not to be pedantic but let’s get this in perspective. Are you single? How much real world experience do you have with women (i.e. without paying)? Most people get married between 25-29 so my first assumption would be that you are lonely and not addicted to anything other than possibly porn.

You also mention the strength of porn. We don’t really need the details but be aware that this has the potential to warp your perception of what healthy sex is like. That could be a double negative if you were to meet a woman and then have unrealistic expectations of what a healthy married sex life is like.

To start with remember that you are not beyond salvation. The fact that you feel guilt for these things is a step in the right direction.

Have you talked to your priest about this? At the very least you should go to confession so all your sins can be cleaned away, but you should also ask him for help resisting these sins. I hope this helps, and I’m sorry I can’t offer more.
