My original post: No Communion until absolution?
I so thank this Priest for giving me a “real” confession and not just go through the motions and send me on my way, as so many others have done. When I walked into that Confessional, I expected the usual, and had no intention of changing my lifestyle, but he didn’t let me give a vague overview and move on. He stopped me at every sin and asked, “How many times”? What are you doing to change it?,etc.He couldn’t grant me absolution, because I was continually living in a state of sin with my live-in girlfriend. Thank God for him who woke me up.
 
How wonderful that you found a priest who remembers that absolution doesn’t “work” without an intention to change one’s ways 🙂

And how wonderful of you to cooperate with God’s incredible grace!

Sorry but I’m confused. Your headline is “I’m back in a state of grace” but in your post you said he could not grant you absolution because you are living in a state of sin with your live-in girlfriend.
Did he grant you absolution or not? Did you ask your girlfriend to move out?
 
He told me to stop having sex with her until we’re married, which she was fine with when I told her.
 
This week was my first Holy Communion since that confession four months ago.
