I posted a thread not too long ago in which I vented my frustrations about some issues I’ve been having with my best friend from high school lately. (For those of you who haven’t read it, here’s the link: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=913685). Anyhow, I’ve been praying about it a lot lately, and I hate to say it, but I’m starting to think that our friendship is definitely fading away slowly. We’ve become very different people than when we first met, and spiritually are on completely different wavelengths. I even discussed it with my dad, and he basically confirmed my suspicions that my friendship with this girl is unlikely to last, and even if it did, it will never be as strong as it used to be. Apart from religious differences, we’ve lost a lot of what we once shared in common and we both are seeking very different directions in life at this point. It’s harder for me to think of what we have in common than what we don’t now.

It really saddens me to see yet another friendship going down the drain for me, and would appreciate any (name removed by moderator)ut as to how I should go about dealing with this. What should I say if my friend wants to see me again? Should I tell her how I feel? Or should I not say anything and let our friendship quietly end?

You can always be upfront with your friend and tell her how you feel. Tell her that friends should be able to share things and that by the very fact that they do, their friendship can become stronger.

You might let the friendship slip away, but don’t be surprised if one day you hear from this friend and find that she’s changed for the better. In other words, don’t write friends off unless you definitely find your friendship is detrimental and you should both go your own way. Then, it’s best to just let it fade out.

God bless you both,
