You’re still on my prayer list Bump, every morning, 4:30-ish.🙂

BumpSetSpike,

I’m younger too and I was born Catholic. I have had whispers in the back of my mind to convert away from Catholicism to everything from Mormonism to Islam to Buddhism and everything back again. I always go back to prayer and FACTS. The facts are why I remain Catholic along with the Eucharist. I can say that through my personal studies into Mormonism I would say that Mormons are people who are truly seeking the Truth and want to live close to Christ. They are guided by weak doctrines though. Their hearts are in the right place, but they’re a little…I can’t find a nicer word than confused. Please understand that I am not in any way trying to bash Mormonism. I just call 'em as I see 'em.

I personally know Mormons who are close friends of mine. One of them named Kaylee is usually really interested about hearing from me about Catholocism. Her Mormon friends always bug her about asking me about my religion though. I’ve witnessed almost a peer pressure from Mormonism on how they treat each other. In families, too, not just friends.

I can’t really relate because I’ve never seriously considered converting from the religion of my family. It must be hard for you. I know though that you will be guided by the One True God of the Cosmos into the Truth through the guidance of His Son and Spirit.

I am praying for you.

Christianley has good advice. I would follow it! And I’ll say a prayer for you, too!

That must be a very difficult process.

God bless you.

Thank you again guys. I cannot tell you how much your hospitality means to me.
You are always welcome. 🙂
I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m loosing control over my life and I am stressing out. I don’t know what to believe, the doctrines are so different. I just want to find the right church but everything has to be so complicated.
Relax my friend! Remember that if you are committed to following Him the the Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you all in HIS good time. How can we stress when He is in control even when we feel that we are not?🙂
I’m not sure why I turned to God and religion in the first place, but I thought it would help me and make me somewhat content with myself; Sometimes I just think to taking the easy way out sounds nice. I really don’t care where I end up.
I’m sorry I am sounding negative here… but I’m really not sure about things anymore.
I understand, Been there and done that and discovered there is no tee-shirt. 😃

Remember what the prophet Isaiah says: (chapter 40) “28: Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable.
29: He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30: Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
31: but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

You’re gonna be just fine. 🙂
Pax tecum,

Following that theme…my scripture passage for Lectio Divina last night was from the Gospel of Mark (I think).
Christ said:
** "For, truly, I say to you if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain ‘Move hence over yonder’ and it will be done. And nothing will be impossible for you.**

I agree that is a good reasoning. What is even better about it is that it is a Mormon reasoning! The Catholics didn’t invent that reasoning; the Mormons did! 😃

Agreeing with me is not allowed. Next thing you know, we’ll agree that God works through whomever he wants regardless of theological system.

Oh, I have no problems with that sentiment at all. I agree with it 100%. 🙂 But going back to my previous post, I am afraid I am going to have to retract that statement and make a correction. That reasoning was in fact invented by a Catholic, not by a Mormon. It has since been popularized by LDS, but it was originally made by a Catholic. So my apologies for that, and here is the reference:

A Catholic Utterance

In a pamphlet entitled The Strength of the Mormon Position, the late Elder Orson F. Whitney, of the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, related the following incident under the heading “A Catholic Utterance”:

Many years ago a learned man, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, came to Utah and spoke from the stand of the Salt Lake Tabernacle. I became well-acquainted with him, and we conversed freely and frankly. A great scholar, with perhaps a dozen languages at his tongue’s end, he seemed to know all about theology, law, literature, science and philosophy. One day he said to me: “You Mormons are all ignoramuses. You don’t even know the strength of your own position. It is so strong that there is only one other tenable in the whole Christian world, and that is the position of the Catholic Church. The issue is between Catholicism and Mormonism. If we are right, you are wrong; if you are right, we are wrong; and that’s all there is to it. The Protestants haven’t a leg to stand on. For, if we are wrong, they are wrong with us, since they were a part of us and went out from us; while if we are right, they are apostates whom we cut off long ago. If we have the apostolic succession from St. Peter, as we claim, there is no need of Joseph Smith and Mormonism; but if we have not that succession, then such a man as Joseph Smith was necessary, and Mormonism’s attitude is the only consistent one. It is either the perpetuation of the gospel from ancient times, or the restoration of the gospel in latter days.”

(LeGrand Richards, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, p. 3)

There are lots of references to it on the Internet, but here is the source where I copied it from.

Why are you trying to start an argument? I thought the point of these boards was to just help answer a question and be done with it. Your zeal is admirable, but it’s not coming across as such. The point of this thread was not to discuss where a form of logic originated: that’s irrelavant. The point is to answer Bumps questions, and/or comment on her decision to convert. That’s all.

zerinus, is a mormon and obviously doesn’t like to see a mormon begin to ask certain questions. That’s why he is responding as he does.
