I am surprised at how much ado is being made over this by some. Its simply a translation change. As long as people have some warning (a few months probably) and there’s some kind of booklet in the pews for them, what’s the big deal?

Going over the theology and reasons for the changes is nice, but the average parishioner isn’t going to care.

The average back pew Catholic could give a rip. When the present defective translation was mandated forty plus years ago there was hardly a murmur.

It wasn’t a defective translation. The translation was made according to the then published guidelines for translating liturgical texts, Comme le prevoit. It was an approved text so it could hardly be called defective.

Have it your way, but two Holy Fathers have demanded its replacement. At least one of the translators on the ICEL committee has publically admitted ts defects and apologized.
There are parts of the current English Mass translation that are only faintly similar to the actual Latin.
At this point it is what it is, and I thank God that it will be no more in just a few months.

USCCB President Authorizes Gradual Introduction of Musical Settings of New Roman Missal Starting In September

BELLEVUE, Washington—Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Divine Worship, announced that diocesan bishops may permit the gradual introduction of the musical settings of the people’s parts of the Mass from the new Roman Missal in September. Primarily this affects the the Gloria, the Holy, Holy, Holy and the Memorial Acclamations.
