A week ago I posted a thread asking if anyone had heard of the tradition of burying a statue of St Joseph to help you sell your house. This is what happened to me since that post.

I went to a Christian book store last week and the only statue they had left was a statue of St Joseph. I bought it and we buried it in our front yard by the “For Sale” sign. We said a prayer for St Joseph to help us sell our house if it was God’s will. Within the last week, we received a contract for our house.

Do I think burying the statue helped? I don’t know. I also spent some time at our Adoration Chapel and all of my family was praying for help from St Joseph. Even our 2 1/2 year old daughter would say “Help us St Joseph with our house” every night. So I really think it was the prayer chain that helped more than anything. Thanks to anyone who read my post and prayed for us.

I believe there is some confusion on this subject within the church. Until a year ago I thought it was OK to bury a statue of St. Joseph upside down in the yard to sell the house.

But about a year ago on “Catholic Answers” I heard a prominent host on the show say this should not be done. It was diabolical and we really do not know if it is really St. Joseph or the Evil One selling our house.

Just think about the concept – burying a statue of a saint upside down in the yard. This just does not seem right. I wish I could give you more information on this but if I were you I would call “Catholic Answers” about it.

Congratulations on selling your home jj!

I think burying the statue is totally ok as long as you remember to pray and really ask for intercession - which you did. I did read the post last week and have been dragging my feet on buying the statue. (we only have a Christian Supply store nearby and I didn’t think they would have Saint statues) I have been praying to St. Joeseph though. We need to move, my hubby got a new job in another state and is only home on weekends. This is killing the whole family!

Glad for your success!

My wife and I have used the St. Joseph statue twice in selling our homes. The first time we sold our house in about three weeks and the second time in about five. I believe the statues work as long as you include daily prayer asking for his intercession.

If I’m not mistaken, you are not supposed to burry the statue upside down. After your home is sold, you are supposed to dig up the statue right before you move out and display it in a prominent place in your new home.

I remember the first time we used the statue, I marked exactly where I buried it but when I went to dig it up it was gone. Gave me kind of an eerie feeling.
