A few good people here have tried to counsel me through this journey, so I thought I would post an update.
Yesterday we had mediation and signed an agreement for legal separation (well, interim agreement).
Part of the agreement includes that he will go to a licensed abuse counselor for evaluation and follow his/her recommendations. Of course, I have no way to verify that he follows anything, but for now we are free from his emotional abuse and dangerous actions.
Just a month ago he finally admitted to still being involved in a relationship with the same woman from 2016 and 2017. Once again, he has also said he will cut off all contact, which I have no reason to believe will actually happen, but there it is.
After his admission last month I really had no more anxiety or hesitation about the separation. He also had one of his verbal explosions on our 19y/o which was a surprise insofar as she is the perfect kid and is no source of stress for any of us. She came to me in the middle of the night sobbing and shaking from what she had endured (she is with me, so this was over the phone).
In the end, if he is to be believed about seeking help, then there is hope. I won’t be fooled again, so just how hard this will be will probably be a shock for him.
Thank you all for your prayerful support.
