The baby has been regularly sleeping through until at least 3:30 every night, we’re moving into a one bedroom in January (a two bedroom would be over half of his take-home pay after utilities, etc), and I will be picking up some medication for my anxiety once the pharmacy notifies me.

Very, very good!!!

I think a one-bedroom is going to produce dramatic improvements to your quality of life.

When you are on your feet, you might want to consider doing a little babysitting to ease the financials. When we lived in the DC area, I started when my oldest was 1, and it was a very nice opportunity for her to have fellow toddler companionship. We’re still in touch with the family, too. I was making $13 an hour at the time, but that was DC, not VA. I believe it was a 7 hour day about twice a week, so it added up very nicely (I was nannying for a graduate student family, so they didn’t need conventional hours). The local mom forums will give you a good idea of childcare rates.

Thank you everyone! I feel so much better already due to starting the medication. Not sure if that’s the placebo effect or if it really has started working already. I’m definitely going to need to find ways to meet other moms locally once the weather gets better because my husband just got a special assignment that will involve 12 hour workdays for the next year.
