I don’t know how many of you will think this is dorky…but my new baby kitten is very sick, and I’m worried.

I found him last week in my back yard, which was very strange because I have seven acres of land and no neighbors, besides horses and cows. He is about eight weeks old, black and white spots (kinda like a cow, very unusual) my four year old named him Tuck.

He was a very skinny hungry kitty when I found him, and we brought him into the house to quarentine him for a while, he was supposed to become an outdoor cat along with my two others Elizabeth and Rosanna. I grew VERY attatched to him VERY quickly. He seemed to appreciate our saving him, and became very affectionate …following me around, climbing into my lap every time I sat. I decided that I wanted him indoors with me…

When I was a girl, I had a cat for fifteen years, who was at times my only friend…after he died I didn’t want the pain of really loving another animal again, and besides, I started a family and I had babies to raise, and so I didn’t have the time

Well…I was surprised at how attached I grew. Then Yesterday, I woke up and Tuck wasn’t acting well. I looked under his chin and there was a grape sized lump…right under his throat, and he had a fever, and he wasn’t moving.

I took him to the vet, and the vet said it is some sort of infection, and he gave him a shot of antibiotics and some for me to take home, and he told me that this should do the trick, but if not, come back tomorrow and he’d look further into it.

Well…I woke up this morning and the fever is back and the swelling has increased it’s in his jaws now, and he still isn’t moving. we’re going back to the vet this afternoon.

I don’t understand why this is affecting me, I am crying over a cat that I’ve only known for a week, but I think it’s because I am so lonely out here in Baptist land, and my husband travels through the week…I was just really looking forward to this cat’s company, just like when I was the incredibly lonely little girl who took her cat’s picture to school…because I loved him that much.

I wish if you read this and you feel moved to that you will say a little prayer for Teresa’s cat Tuck in Kentucky…I just cannot believe this is affecting me sooo much.

Thank you

I’m sorry, Teresa. I’m a cat lover, too. It might have been a bite of some kind that’s gotten infected. I hope little Tuck will be okay. Is he drinking water? Have you tried buying that kitten formula if he’s not eating well? Maybe even a soft scrambled egg - gotta keep his strength up. Did the vet seem worried yesterday? Let us know what happens. (((((Teresa & Tuck)))))

**You certainily are NOT dorky…I’ve gotten that close to several of my animals…both dogs and cats…There’s no explaining it, it just happens…Animals sometimes fulfill a need in us that people just don’t…They ask for so little, and give so much in return. **

I hope your little Tuck is doing a lot better by now. Chances are it is something that wil be taken care of by anitbiotics or other treatment…Just make sure he continues to get enough food and water…

Thank you for the hug. The vet shaved his chin and didn’t see any puncture wounds. He ate some yesterday, after the vet gave him something for pain, and his fever went down…thank you for the suggestion of scrambled eggs! I’ll do that!

The vet looked confused yesterday…he has no clue. He said it might be some sort of worm…I forgot the name…that boars a hole and buries eggs…and then the eggs hatch and the worm escapes…disgustingly gross isn’t it…and told me to watch for a developing hole…He also said it may be a bite that has healed but latter became infected…

I dunno…it seems wierd to me the way that the infection is moving and spreading…

I don’t think I realised how lonely I was until the prospect of losing this cat hit me today…

Tuck isn’t better, and has an appointment at the vets at 3:45…I’ll try the eggs and see if he’ll drink water…Thank you so much…I feel less dorky knowing that other people go through the same thing

He may need to put the little guy on an IV,unless it is the worms:eek: My old cat Henrietta got a bite on the back of her neck during mating season and it fot real infected like that,The vet had to lance and drain it and put her on antibiotics. How long do you have to wait before you can take him?

I go back at 3:45…My cat Rosanna had a bite like that too…the antibiotics worked overnight…I guess that’s why I’m worried…I expected the same results…

You all are making me feel so much better, and less of a dork…

I am so sorry about your kitten. My cat is my baby, so I know how you must be feeling. Please let us know how Tuck is doing. The patron saint of cats & their people is St Gertrude of Nivelles. I have just prayed to her for you & for Tuck.
God bless.

Aww. I’m sorry, Lilith. How did the vet visit go? Your story went straight to my heart, I love kittens. Well, I said a prayer for you and Tuck. Keep us updated.

Hello…thank all of you so much! It appears that Tuck has a bacterial infection in his lyphotic glands. The antibiotics are finally working, and I have pain meds. for fever also.

Much much better! Thank you all for caring! Sometimes, I don’t know what I’d do without these boards!

Love you all…happy fourth of July
Teresa

Dear Lillith,

I am just reading this thread and am glad to hear that little Tuck is starting to improve. What a stressful time it has been for you and Tuck!
God bless you for caring enough about one of God’s creatures to help him through his illness.
I will be praying for you and Tuck. :gopray:

Thank you friend…Tuck is much better today…I hope you had a great forth of July!

Love,
Teresa and Tuck

No you are not at all dorky! My kitties are my babies. I have a husband who is a trucker and home only 4-5 days a month and a 17 year old son who is rarely home. If it wasn’t for the cats I’d be nuts. I will say a prayer for your kitty to get well soon. I certainly understand your attachment. We’ve only had our cats for the last few years but I will not be without cats again. I love them!

Amie

Glad to hear your kitty is on the mend. I simply love my cat so you are in good company here when you worry over your pets. It appears there are many of us cat lovers here on the board.

Enjoy your little baby.

Teresa! I’m late to this thread, and I am so happy that little Tuck is getting better.

From Aunt Martha (“mom” to three cats, one who is not quite a year old, so I know how you feel!)

Tuck is at 100%…chasing his tail, the raveling on my kitchen rug, and anything else that moves!

The funniest thing about this cat is that he prefers to sleep right up in your face…he was perched on my husband’s shoulder, just like a parrot…so cute.

My husband doesn’t even like cats that much…but this little guy is special, and I catch DH looking at him with a smile on his face!

Thanks to everyone…Aunt MArtha, Jrabs, Beluvdlily…for your kind words and prayers!

Glad to hear the kitty is doing well. Why is St. Gertrude of Nivelles the patroness of cats & their people?
