Urbi et Orbi blessing if you missed it live

I missed the live blessing but see that ewtn is playing it again tonight. If I watch it recorded do you still receive the blessing and indulgence?

There is a thread open about that now, and sadly, the answer is no.

EDIT: I can’t find the thread now. I think it disappeared.

The narrator (from the Vatican news website) at the end said that for those that couldn’t watch the feed, if they said a prayer today specifically about the coronavirus, or a rosary, a divine mercy chaplet, or some other prayers that I don’t recall, with the intentions of ending the pandemic and for those afflicted with it, that they would also receive the indulgence. Not sure about the blessing.

Hello all! I missed the Urbi et Orbi today from His Holiness, Pope Francis. If I watch a recorded version, will it still make me eligible as long as I complete everything else required? May the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

You’re correct, there are a whole bunch of ways to get the Plenary Indulgence if you missed the live Urbi et Orbi. I copied the quote from the Decree that has all the ways, into the other thread that I linked.

Probably the easiest way from the list would be to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the intentions the Decree specified. Takes about 6 minutes when I do it.

With respect to the blessing, the rule is that we have to either be there in person, or tune in live via radio, TV, Internet etc in order to get the blessing. We have to receive it in real time. We cannot get a blessing by rebroadcast. That applies to all blessings from any priest, not just the Pope’s blessing or the Urbi et Orbi.
