This is for all you ID advocates.
The Catholic Laboratory podcast has just done a three-part series on the origin of life (episodes 39, 40 & 41).

Ian Miller, the host, pays special attention to the Urey-Miller experiments which supposedly show how the “reducing atmosphere” of the early Earth plus exposure to radiation caused the of primitive life forms. Urey was able to create amino acids in the laboratory.

But, Miller points out, Urey pretty much proved that one needs an Intelligence (or at least and Experimenter) to get even amino acids much less life. He had to remove a toxic sludge that formed & destroyed the “building blocks” of life, exposed his “primordial soup” only to short but not to long UV radiation and last (rather first) of all his assumptions about the composition of the early atmosphere may be unwarranted.

I hardly expect scientists to say “Beats me, it must have been God” but they could at least admit, “Beats me.”

Not only that, but most biologists believe life started with RNA, not amino acids. So this experiment is obsolete.
