The debate is ‘Dying with dignity’. Should someone who is terminally ill, or diagnosed with a degenerative disease, or being kept alive by machines have the right to choose their own time of death? Can someone else choose to terminate the life of a loved one when there is no more hope or chances of them getting better or if the burden of caring for them becomes too great?

The provincial government is trying to legalize euthanasia despite a majority of people expressing their views not to. The gov’t is accepting written responses for peoples’ views against it but we only have till July 16.

Please provide solid info with links or statistics if possible.

I know that the Catholic Church is against such practices; please help us to fight against this ‘culture of death’.

God Bless

According to Catholic teaching, no, one cannot choose to cause one’s own death. One CAN morally choose to reject extraordinary means of preserving life.

One cannot choose to TERMINATE a life, but again, one can choose to not use “extraordinary means” to preserve a life.

For Catholic teaching, I’d first refer to the Catechism para 2258ff.

Thank you. However, I feel that the gov’t who is totally libera and anti-catholic would not appreciate this POV. I can still maintain that it represents a part of the Quebec population and that some of the points made in the Catechism have relevence.
