The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults on CD! 16 CD’s in all, so it seems to be unabridged. I was just at the library and picked it up. If it is of good quality, I will buy it from Barnes and Noble.

I’m very excited about this, I have been waiting for years for the Catechism to come out on CD. I have a long commute to work every day and now I will be able to listen to the Catechism on CD.

I read the Catechism years ago and it was very helpful and faith affirming. But I just haven’t had time to read it again as I’ve planned to.

Does anyone know what the difference is between this “United States Catechism” and the regular Catechism of the Catholic Church which came out about a decade ago?

I was wondering the same thing when I read the title.

The United States Catechism is produced by the USCCB as a supplement to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It addresses issues in the Catechism and explains them as the pertain particularly to people in the US. The original catechism called for “Local Catechisms” to be produced, and the United States Catholic Catechism for adults is an example of this.

OK thanks for the info. I am surprised this “local catechism” came out on CD before the original Catechism did. But I’m fairly sure it will still be a valuable audio for me.

It’s funny, I just heard about the US Catechism and all this today on the radio!

From the Apostolic Constitution Fidei Depositum under section IV:
Therefore, I ask the Church’s Pastors and the Christian faithful to receive this catechism in a spirit of communion and to use it assiduously in fulfilling their mission of proclaiming the faith and calling people to the Gospel life. This catechism is given to them that it may be a sure and authentic reference text for teaching Catholic doctrine and particularly for preparing local catechisms.
