Hello again, everyone. I’am a RCIA candidate we are to be going to Confession for the first time this Saturday during our retreat. We have had a class on the Sacrament and have been given some material. I like the insert that was in our Parish bulletin last Sunday. “How to go to Confession.” USCCB. Has anyone found it helpful? Especially as a new Catholic?

I was in your shoes last year in RCIA. You are almost done ! Welcome.

The above is I think what you refer to. Its a great guide, the second page is pretty much the way it goes. Truly for #2 and its never been more than “Welcome” or “Come in” or “Hello” and for #8 I’ve not noticed that happening. As to the act of contrition, certainly learn it, but don’t worry if you stumble or even forget. The priest will gladly help you, and sometimes they have it printed on the table/desk/whatever.

In fact thats what it says in the orange box bottom of page 2. “If it has been a while since your last confession remember, “Do not fear” (Is 41:10). The priest will help guide you. And feel free to take this how to guide with you!”

Your first confession though won’t be anything this formalized, at least mine wasn’t.

First of all, welcome home Wkane. God bless you on your RCIA journey. I’ll be praying for you at the Easter Vigil.
The “How to go to confession” insert is usually put in the bulletin during Lent. It’s placed to help people with ways to make a good confession; whether they are new to the Sacrament, frequent partakers or those who may have been away for awhile.
