This is not a question specifically for me, although it does pertain to me. I was wondering if using marijuana medicinally (not abusing it) in a state/country where it is illegal is sinful. And if so, would it be venial or mortal?

My opinion, it would be venial, if sinful at all. The crime is in the unjust law. You should have the right to make your own healthcare decisions. The deviance is created in this case, Making a criminal out of someone who is morally upright.

I am so happy for you that you have found this help for you. May it continue to be a source of good health and productive days for you. May it soon be decriminalized in your state, so that you may not be persecuted for doing what you know to be good FOR YOU.

God bless.

Proscribed drugs are not illegal for medical purposes. Opium ( a powerful painkiller) is medically given to sufferers where normal painkillers are useless and that is not illegal.

It is specifically illegal, with no clauses in the law to allow for the compassionate useage in my state. This is also the same in 39 other states (there are currently 10 that have some form of “allowance” for medical purposes).

It doesn’t matter what it’s used for, the law states that it cannot be used (or rather posessed), sold, or produced.

I don’t know what you mean by “compassionate” use. That does not sound like a proper medical use. I see you are talking about the US.

In the UK my daughter was hospitalised with a growth on her pituitary gland which was causing pain in her head worse than migraines. The only thing to dull the pain was opium which can be prescribed by doctors legally for medical purposes. She had to take that for about 6 weeks until the growth problem was fixed.
